DAVE BANCROFT

Dave Bancroft was a graceful, quick-handed shortstop and solid lead-off hitter who was known for his intelligence on the field and his fiery leadership in the dugout. The switch-hitting infielder began his big-league career with the 1915 Philadelphia Phillies pennant winners. Later in his career with the New York Giants, he won World Series titles in 1921 and 1922. Bancroft was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veteran’s Committee in 1971.
