ED DELAHANTY

The eldest of five brothers who reached the major leagues, Ed Delahanty was one of baseball’s early power hitters. He flourished with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1893, when he batted .368 for the season and led the league in home runs and RBI. In 1896, “Big Ed” narrowly missed the Triple Crown again when he batted .397 and collected 19 home runs and 146 RBI. Delahanty tragically died when he was swept over Niagara Falls on July 2, 1903.
