GROVER CLEVELAND ALEXANDER

Grover Cleveland “Pete” Alexander mesmerized opposing hitters with a laser-like fastball and a sweeping curve on his way to a National League record-tying 373 career victories. The Nebraska farm boy burst into the majors in 1911 with 28 wins and a 2.57 ERA for the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent the next six years with the Phils winning 190 games - one-third of the team’s total for the period - including 30 or more for three straight years.
