THE DIAMOND KING
FILM SCORE
COMPOSED BY ANDREW JOSLYN
For THE DIAMOND KING, a film celebrating the life and work of renowned baseball artist Dick Perez, I sought to create a score that evokes nostalgia, tradition, and the timeless spirit of baseball. Drawing inspiration from early 20th-century baseball music, I incorporated melodies from the public domain archives of the Library of Congress—specifically old baseball anthems and Tin Pan Alley standards.
Additionally, I infused the score with the rich, familiar sounds of Wrigley Field’s baseball organ traditions, blending them with the warmth and charm of a Baroque classical chamber ensemble. To balance the historic influences with a more modern sensibility, I also wove in elements of 1980s PBS-style synth music, creating a polished yet heartfelt soundscape.
The result is a musical tapestry that mirrors the essence of Perez’s work—deeply rooted in history, yet vibrant and alive. The score is meant to feel nostalgic yet fresh, polished yet warm, capturing the enduring magic of baseball and the artistry that has immortalized its legends.
