STEVE CARLTON
Steve Carlton, a 6’4”, 210-pound southpaw, was one of the most intimidating pitchers of the modern era. During the early years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, he was a power pitcher known for his fastball. But when he was traded to Philadelphia in 1972, he learned how to use a hard, biting slider which became one of the nastiest pitches in baseball. He was the ace of the Phillies during their glory years of 1976-1983, a period in which the team won 5 division titles, two pennants and a World Series. Carlton won four Cy Young Awards during his 22-year major league career.
